Date/Time
Repeats every week until Fri Feb 22 2013 except Thu Feb 14 2013.
Thursday, January 10, 2013 - 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Location
Agricultural Conference Center
252 Poplar Grove Road
Boone, NC 28607
Description
If you have dreams of transforming your farms into a thriving business, consider enrolling in the 2013 Agripreneur Workshop Series.
Sponsored by Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture, the High Country Workforce Development Board, the N.C. Cooperative Extension and the Caldwell Community College Small Business Center, the six-week series takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Jan. 10 to Feb. 21 (excluding Feb. 14).
"This program will give participants interested in starting, diversifying or increasing their marketing potential an opportunity for formal training and discussion with other farmers who have been effective in building their agricultural businesses," said Jim Hamilton, director of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Watauga Center.
Because scholarships are available to all who apply, the workshops are free for those who complete the required paperwork from the Small Business Center.
Participants may register for any of the six workshops, but organizers recommend attending all six sessions, as the workshops are hands-on and the information builds sequentially.
Arlene Childers, a consultant and former assistant director of North Carolina REAL Entrepreneurship, will facilitate the workshop series.
First on the workshop list is "Exploring Agriculture Entrepreneurship Self-Assessment and Community Analysis" on Jan. 10. The guest speaker is Caleb Crowell of New River Organic Growers.
The Jan. 17 workshop is "Introduction to Business Planning, Market Feasibility, Competition, Sustainability," with guest speaker David Nicklaw of Sunshine Cove Farm. Jan. 24's workshop, "Financial Feasibility and Break-even Analysis," features guest speaker Melissa Spoharski from Accountable Inc.
Participants will discuss marketing plans on Jan. 31, followed by business operations on Feb. 7, with Shiloh Avery and Jason Roehrig of Tumbling Shoals Farm.
Concluding the series will be a workshop on business financials.

The We Are All Farmers Permaculture Institute is a North Carolina non-profit devoted to helping people in the Appalachian-Piedmont become more responsible for their food. We also conduct three free workshops a year for regional non-profits.
Here is what people are saying about working with We Are All Farmers:
The on site, two day workshop facilitated by We Are All Farmers was an excellent addition to our community garden project. Intensive discussions, critical perspectives and hands-on work helped us to really begin to move toward more organized and strategic agricultural production. We were able to take all of the information and suggestions provided and develop our own, long term place-based solutions for our garden space. It’s amazing, for me, how an objective perspective can broaden a collective vision for land.

I wanted to say thank you again for the four PDC weekends we have had so far. I have found them to not only be very informative, but also transforming. The opportunity to learn in a diverse, relaxed atmosphere, with individuals from all walks of life, has been beyond wonderful. I feel that everything we have learned to date is directly applicable to improving the quality of not only our surroundings, but also the interactions we have with others. Your farm is an amazing place, and the PDC will always be very important to me.
